Baron de Sigognac, 1942

Armagnac
In original wooden case

This rare 1942 vintage Armagnac is only available in strictly limited quantities.

Armagnac is the oldest spirit in the world, used as a medicine in former times it has been distilled and appreciated since 1411. The Owners of Baron de Sigognac, The Guasch family, have been in Gascony since the 12th century. They have owned the château at Bordeneuve since 1974 and are one of the region's largest courtier and negociant operations.

Once Armagnac is distilled the colourless spirit is aged in 420 litre oak barrels. It is here, in barrel, that the Armagnac leaches vanillins and tannins from the toasted oak which lend the spirit colour and flavour.

Dow's Port, 1942

Vintage Port - capsule damaged and rewaxed - good label and level

A very rare wartime vintage.

Provenance:
No Dow vintages were formally declared during the war.
However it was common practice for shippers to bottle a small quantity of port to lay down. There was a shortage of part in the UK in the late 50's and the wine society brought up all of the bin ends of mature port - including some 1940's undeclared port. This bottle originates from the wine society purchase.

Harvey's Grand Champagne Cognac

Vintage 1942- landed 1964 - Bottled 1973

The colour is mahogany with coppery glints, the nose is extremely fine and complex, with a subtle scent of cedar and cigar box. These aromas are particular to very old Cognacs. Every mouthful exudes class, with a rich and intense delivery with echoes of cinnamon, orange peel, dry apricotand fruit cake. This is a must-have for Cognac collectors... or those who know how to appreciate a fine cognac!

Graham's Port, 1942

Vintage Port (in neck stained label)

Declared by some shippers, despite the war, and in some cases declared and bottled in 1945 to celebrate Victory. First Vintage to be bottled exclusively in Portugal, rather than shipped in cask as was customary.

Little known, and production was small due to continued post-war restrictions, but well-cellared wines are still a pleasure.
